A little out of the blue, but...

This has been a topic that's been on my mind lately, and it may seem weird for me to talk about it, but its actually been part of the reason I haven't been keeping up with this blog as much as I should've (for those of you who are waiting in bated breath for my updates :p ).

But yeah, I've been following the revolutions in the Middle East. Not for any esoteric reason like looking for Ghosts or SM or anything of that nature (Though if I do see them, I'll be sure to let you know). The fact of the matter is that Geopolitics interest me (and to a lesser extent domestic politics, but that mostly boils down to the squabbing of sides that are equally wrong in their own ways). I dunno where exactly this comes from, probably all the geopolitical themes from my Sci-Fi I like (I actually think the geopolitics of the prequel trilogy, if they weren't dumbed down and given so much attention, could've made for an interesting backdrop of the war, but I digress). I don't really get a chance to discuss it IRL because very few people seem to care for this shit, so its mainly something I armchair with a couple people online. But I thought I might as well share it with you.

Of course there are mixed feelings about this. Some people are worried that like in 1979 in Iran the revolutions will be hijacked by radical Islamists, and while I don't think that is the case, I can understand their fears. A more broader and likely fear is that the new regimes will fall back on the same practices as the old ones. Only time can tell if the people have the resolve to actively keep tyrannical and corruptive influences at bay.

But I for one am optimistic. I tHink this is a rEal turning point in Middle East relationS. I don't knoW how All thIs will Turn out, but I thINk if America really wants to chanGe its image in the Middle East, it needs to completely embrace democratic reform and not stand behind despots.

Eh, I know this isn't exactly what you come here to hear, but between the school work I'm supposed to be doing and following the protests, well, thats why I haven't been as active. Hopefully I'll have more to say soon, but that isn't a guarantee.

  1. And what the hells with that random punctuation? Learn grammar much?

  2. Ignore Beavis and Butthead Brief, I find this kind of stuff interesting to talk about.

One of the aspect's that I find fascinating about the revolutions, is how much of a role that the internet has played in it. I mean one of the main reasons for Egypt's success was because of it, even though the Egyptian government tried to shut the internet down, it was unsuccessful and many of the top guy's in the revolution were able to communicate through Twitter and spread news of what was happening. Of course one of the other main factors is the military not doing anything to stop the protests, but still, it shows how much the internet has changed the world.

I hold out hope that this turns out well myself, though I am nervous that like you said, the new regimes will fall back on the habits of the old. I used to follow domestic politics rather heavily too, but the sheer amount of wankery coming from both sides has caused much disillusionment with it all.

On an unrelated note, I was wondering what was up with the random punctuation on your last paragraph as well. But then I took a closer look and the choice of letter's seemed almost...deliberate, I decided to put the capitalized letter's together and it forms this message, HESWAITING.

    The hell? Brief...what's going on?

  3. Well, I was thinking about doing a post more specifically on the renewed protests in Iran earlier this week, but that never came to fruition and it was tad bit too political. Doesn't really matter now that the liberals have been gaged... again. *sigh* Maybe they'll get another shot of Qaddafi falls, idk.

And what are you talking about? I don't see that in my post. Panty, are you messing with my posts?

  4. Brief, My guess is that Slendy, or SM, (for those of you who have no idea what this is it means Slender Man) has visited you and messed with your post. If this is true, be glad that was all. We hope...
